I'm curious to know Kolbe's awareness to the changes in educational standards regarding the Common Core Standards. Will this effect or change Kolbe's curriculum?

Thank you,
Maddy

Yes we are aware, but it won't affect much, if any, of our curriculum. A few random things like math, where Kindergarteners now must know how to count to 120 instead of 100, will be taken into account.

Megan,

Homeschoolers will be affected by these changes to educational standards. The Common Core Standards will be aligned to the SAT, ACT and other forms of standardized tests.

Here is an article by HSLDA that explains this quite well.

Standards.

Madeline, we've been paying attention to the ongoing discussion regarding CCS. While homeschoolers in general will likely end up being affected, at this time we don't foresee any changes to our curriculum, as for the most part our curriculum already exceeds the CCS. Should the time come when CCS varies significantly from our curriculum, we will prayerfully discern whether to make changes to match. Ultimately, our goal is always going to be to offer the best education possible. At this time there are no requirements for private schools to comply with CCS, and as such, while we'll take them into consideration, it is unlikely that they will be the sole factor in us making any changes. We will be particularly mindful of any standards that may be adopted in regards to the "liberal arts" as that is where there is most likely to be differences between our curriculum and standards.

My BIL works in an university in NY. He told us there are a handful of colleges/universities don't use the SAT at all. So it depends upon the college/university your child applies to. Community Colleges don't use them at all. These colleges have placement tests you have to take when you are accepted so they really don't need the SAT. Most of these colleges take their grades, activities, community work. They are looking for the whole student. I have one child who will be going into community college and one who will eventually go to a 4 year college. It all depends on the student.
