Post son having trouble concentrating due to chronic pain Reply with quote
My 13-year-old has had a chronic pain disorder for 15 months. He was a straight A student, but these last couple of months the pain has been so bad he can hardly concentrate. Lately I read his schoolwork to him or use audio books. He was in advanced Math and Language Arts, so we could drop it if we needed to an I'm considering doing so because the stress makes him hurt worse. However, I'm hoping someone here might have had a child who found a technique which allowed them to concentrate at least for a little while despite severe pain. My son hasn't been able to do hardly any written work for the last six weeks and I'm concerned about how he will get through the required yearly standardized testing required by my state (North Carolina). NC thankfully allows us to test at home and I'm wondering if any one has suggestions on how to handle the testing to make it easier for him.

Do you have a choice of testing?

If so, is the Peabody Individual Achievement Test an option? It is done orally.

I live in Minnesota but perhaps my tester would be able to find someone in your area to administer it.

Yes! The Peabody is acceptable here in NC. http://www.covenanteducationservices.net/index.php/2012-12-01-21-16-06/eog-and-achievment-testing/79-eog-testing/76-peabody-individual-achievement-test-revised
And it can be administered via Skype! http://achievement-test.com/testing-options/peabody

Thank you so much!
